Lucie Saicová Římalová

Božena Němcová (1820-1862) is an important figure of the 19th century Czech culture. Her literary texts are highly valued by literary scientists and children are taught about them at school. But how do we see Božena Němcová today? Do we still read her texts? Dr. Římalová will briefly discuss Božena Němcová’s public “picture” in contemporary Czech society and then focus on Božena Němcová’s private letters. She will show why they represent an important part of Božena Němcová’s literary work and why many people regard them as her most vivid literary heritage.
