Illustrated lecture by J.P. “Paddy” Dale, Associate Professor Emeritus, St. Olaf College, examines the changing economic and political contexts of the Czech and Slovak lands in the fragmenting Hapsburg Empire towards the end of the nineteenth century. Dvorak’s music was both shaped by and contributed to emerging national identities.
