As the railroad sent out fliers of parcels of land, a small Czech
community was established before a depot was even built. The
founders named this community after the place they originated from.
Soon a town was formed with numerous businesses, a church, and a
school. Although most of these businesses are gone, this small
community still exists along the railroad tracks in northern Minnesota.
My name is Peg Skalicky. I have lived in Beroun for most of my life.
My mother and father both grew up in Beroun. My in-laws also grew
up in Beroun. My father’s grandpa was one of the first settlers and
owned the general store. I was fascinated by the rich history of this
town and felt the need to keep it alive. With the help of others, I was
able to compile the book, The History of Beroun. I also have the
website: www.historyofberoun.yolasite.com and a Facebook page:
Yesteryear Beroun.
