Lost and Found is a book like no other Havel ever wrote. In its raw urgency, its directness, its sly humor, in the range of its intellectual and emotional scope, it reveals the man in full. In it, we meet Havel the self-deprecating warrior for human rights; Havel the curious and sympathetic observer of everything and everyone around him, including himself; Havel the playwright, ever in search of new subjects to illuminate the world in which he finds himself; Havel, the merciless self-analyst, holding himself to the highest standards even as he agonizes over his failure to live up to them. The reader might even catch a glimpse, between the lines, of Havel, the future president.
