Since the 19th century, collectors were travelling in the Czech lands,
documenting folk culture. What began as an individual endeavor
continued in the 20th century as institutional research, and today there
are large archives containing thousands of songs. Only a fraction of
this wealth was made available through printed editions and
songbooks. Project Písňovna (Songbrary – library of songs) aims to
provide an easy entrance to the database of archival materials. The
presentation will feature the database and ways it can be used.
