Rivers attracted humans for centuries. What today is a place for recreation has been a source of livelihood for generations. Rivers satisfied the basic human needs and provided power for various human endeavors. The first settlers usually made their places for living on the river banks. The river contributed to the formation of crafts, traditions, and family life. We find these traits in human settlements across continents and countries.

About the Presenter: Dr. Jan Šiška is an associate professor from the Charles University, Prague. His background is in special education. Jan has travelled over more than 40 countries but always finds a home in the Czech-Moravian basin surrounded by woods and highlands. Jan was awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship with affiliation to the University of Minnesota.
