In our news of May 2026, the Board of Directors presented a scholarship in the amount of $1000 to Annika Romine to attend the Summer Program: Cross-Cultural Pathways for Young Leaders in the Czech Republic.
She returned and shared with us a summary of her experience.
Annika writes:
My impressions of the Czech Republic are that its culture and heritage are deeply connected to its history, traditions, architecture, and the experiences of its people. I was especially interested in how the country’s history has influenced its government and its role in the world. I learned that Czechia uses diplomacy and its relationships with organizations such as the European Union and NATO to protect its security, values, and interests. They also have a huge part in radiofreeeurope and have had a strong part in getting news to those around the world that don’t have access to the truth. It was super intriguing to visit Czechia ministry of foreign affairs and getting to meet with diplomats and leaders of the country. They gave us a better understanding of how the country ran and what goes into being in the parliament, senate, and more. I also found it interesting that Czech culture and heritage are used as part of its diplomacy to share the country’s history and identity with people around the world. The multiple outreach progress and organizations like Sokol that you can find around the country was so cool to see. The fun activities like paddle boarding on Charles River, exploring old town Square and Walking through Brno With fellow college students give us a better understanding of life in the Czech Republic and every day student behavior. Overall, visiting and learning about Czechia gave me a greater appreciation for how a country’s culture, history, government, and foreign relationships can all shape its identity
