CSCC Presents Symposium on Multilingual Education and Culture

The Seal of Biliteracy

The purpose of the third event in the Multilingual Education and Culture series is to invite participants into a conversation about a potential way to formalize student language attainment skills different from some of the more traditional accreditation processes, such as Advance Placement classes. The alternative presented here is called the Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or county office of education in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.  The Seal of Biliteracy encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills the students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices.

Presenters: Kimberly Caster, Edina Public Schools Language Representative; Ursula Lentz, Minnesota Department of Education Representative
